The Making of "Learn Shapes With Shapes" by Jazmyn Yeager

How and why does a five year-old girl write a book? Well...here's what happened.

I wanted to find a way to teach my little brother Zack about shapes. We have toys with shapes, but he only wanted to play with those.

I had to find another way to get him to pay attention! He loves books, but we didn't have any books on shapes that I could find here at home. My mom writes books. I ask her if she could help me write one for Zack and she said yes! I like penguins so I wanted the book to be about penguins.

So mom suggested that the penguin could actually teach the shapes in the book. But I thought it would be neat to make the penguin out of shapes! Mom liked that idea too. She is good with Photoshop so she got to work and started making the penguin out of shapes.

We wanted to make sure every part of his body was a shape. I don't know when we started calling him "Shapes" but it just stuck. I like it. When we finally got him created the way we liked, then it was time to write!

We decided to use arrows to point at Shapes to teach each shape on his body. It is also important to let others know they are doing a great job, even if they get the answer wrong!

I also wanted to put the shapes on the pages with the answers. Mom said this was a good way to help remember so she liked that idea too!

Twenty-nine pages later "Learning Shapes With Shapes" was finished!

Here is the full cover. Mom put me on the back! That picture was taken by my Aunt Gwendolyn <3

Next was publishing the book. Mom went with CreateSpace for the print book and Kindle Direct Publishing for the eBook. I am happy with her choices! Use the links below to find the books for sale!
